Billing — upgrade, manage, cancel

How payment works

We use Stripe Checkout. We never see or store your card number — it goes straight to Stripe. Our database stores a Stripe customer id and a subscription id, that's it.

Upgrading to Pro

1. Go to /billing
2. Click Upgrade to Pro — $19/month
3. You're redirected to Stripe Checkout. Enter your card (test card 4242 4242 4242 4242 works in test mode).
4. Stripe processes the payment, then redirects you back to /billing/success
5. The Stripe webhook fires within seconds, flipping your tier to Pro
6. If /billing still shows Free, refresh the page — webhook delivery is async

Managing your subscription

Once you're Pro, /billing shows a Manage subscription button. That opens Stripe's customer portal where you can:

• Cancel — takes effect at end of current billing period; you keep Pro until then
• Update your payment method
• Update your billing email or address
• Download invoices (PDF) for any past payment

Cancellation policy

You can cancel anytime. We do not pro-rate refunds for partial months. If you cancel on day 5 of a 30-day billing period, you keep Pro features through day 30, then downgrade to Free automatically. No further charges.

Re-subscribing

After cancellation we preserve your Stripe customer id (but clear the subscription id). When you click Upgrade to Pro again, Stripe attaches the new subscription to the existing customer — your saved cards and address come back without re-entry.

Failed payments

If your card declines on renewal, Stripe retries automatically for a few days. We don't downgrade until the subscription is officially canceled (Stripe's smart retry usually recovers). You'll get emails from Stripe when retries happen.

What's in each receipt email

Sent by Stripe directly: invoice number, amount, last 4 of card, link to the hosted invoice page. Sent by us on top of that: a thank-you with a link to your account's billing page.

Disputing a charge

Email [email protected] first — we'll usually issue a courtesy refund. Chargebacks via your bank cost us a $15 fee, so it's in everyone's interest to resolve directly.
